VR Scout 3D VRML Viewer

VR Scout is Chaco's retargetable VRML viewer, which displays 3D graphics from the web. These 3D graphics files usually have a ".WRL" file extension. Using VR Scout, you can fly through a 3D scene, rotate a 3D object to view it from any side, or walk through it. VR Scout has a headlight to illuminate scenes that don't contain their own lights.

VR Scout uses either Intel 3DR or Microsoft Reality Lab 3D graphics engines, allowing it to be hardware accelerated on a variety of 3D graphics boards. VR Scout has been rated by several independent sources as the best implementation of the VRML 1.0 standard.

At present there are three VR Scout versions available. Please press on the item which best fits your needs.

VR Scout 1.22 Windows95/NT Plug-in viewer.
Choose this entry for the Netscape 2.0beta4 or later browsers, on Windows 95 and NT only (32-bit version). The plug-in allows you to view VRML images embedded in an HTML document. VR Scout 1.22 uses Microsoft Reality Lab, which does not currently take advantage of any 3D hardware accelerator boards, but is faster than Intel 3DR on non-accelerated hardware. Version 1.22 is more robust and complete than VR Scout 1.1.
VR Scout 1.22 Windows 3.1, 95 and NT external viewer.
Choose this entry for Windows 3.1, 95, and NT 3.51 web browsers which require an external "helper" application, such as Netmanage Websurfer, Mosaic, Netscape 1.x, 2.0 (16-bit version), and most other web browsers. This version uses Reality Lab, like the 1.22 plug-in.
VR Scout 1.1 Windows 3.1, 95 and NT external viewer.
Choose this entry for Windows 3.1, 95, and NT 3.51 web browsers which require an external "helper" application, such as Netmanage Websurfer, Mosaic, Netscape 1.x (16-bit version), and most other web browsers. This version uses Intel 3DR rendering engine, which can take advantage of several 3D hardware accelerator boards. Machines without 3D accelerator boards should use a 1.22 version above.
